Acronyms I'll use:
TM - Turn Meter
O Up - Offense Up
Adds - Non boss characters. For The Pit this means the pigs the captain summons.
Dps - Damage per second, but in this case I use it to refer to characters specializing in damage.
As many of you have noticed, there is a noticeable difference between Tier 7 and Tier 6 Rancor fights. I'll break down the optimization notes I have by phase. Feel free to add your own observations, but when you do specify what phase you are referring to. Anyone with specific roster questions, feel free to post and I'll try to give optimal team setups for you to use.
PHASE 1 (Whale teams)
Obviously, Phase 1 has become much more about burst damage and survival. The two adds appear to have the same tenacity as before, however the increased damage they deal means that stunning them permanently is a very risky strategy. I recommend bursting the adds down and focus firing on the captain. Ackbar led teams allow you to heal/dispel while still maintaining damage and allow for insane burst as needed. Phasma teams also replicate this, but need a dispel for death mark. QGJ can regularly reduce tm, but getting a speed down to stick is hard.
Teams
Ackbar (L), Leia, QGJ, Daka (or Ewok Elder), Fives (or Phasma or RG or GS or Rey)
Phasma (L), Rey, GS, QGJ, Rex(or Ewok Elder or Lobot)
Damage goals
All whales should aim for 10-20% damage in this phase. Try to save Rey, Leia, and QGJ if possible.
PHASE 2/3
These two phases are almost identical. For tier 7, everyone is aiming for ONE attack in phase 2 and ONE attack in phase 3. Go straight for the door and then unload on the rancor. You will not last very long after the door goes up.
Teams
For non-whales, I recommend your strongest damage toons, since you won't have phase 1 damage and phase 4 is shit damage for everyone. Your teams may vary, but an example of a sample team might be:
Phasma (L), QGJ, Rey, GS, (any other dps)
Sid (or even Boba)(L), Any four attackers (GS, RP, Biggs, Rey, anything that shoots things)
I am unsure for a droid team if Poggle (L) or HK (L) is better. Someone with more droid experience can weigh in.
The rancor does not suffer from TM down when the door stuns her, so do not worry about reducing tm when the door is down. If you can stick a speed down on her just before or just after the door slam, you will get a lot of damage on her.
The offense up and crit up given by the door being down do NOT stack with offense up. They should stack with passive leader abilities (such as poggle or Sid).
For whales. This is counter intuitive, but you should use your weakest dps in phase 2 (as long as they can kill the door panel). This is because our smaller rosters will probably start to fall short in phase 3. Phase 3, I recommend throwing out any low hp dps you saved from p1 or another weak team. This is where you catch your breath.
Teams
Sid (L), low hp attackers, and Yoda (if rancor > 50% hp).
Damage goals:
Everyone's goal is roughly 2-4% per attack per phase. Some of you non-whales with smaller tier 7 rosters will want to aim for higher percents for better raid standing.
Phase 4
I recommend tanky toons. This phase hurts, and I've yet to figure out how to optimize it besides using Rey or Ackbar Leia and praying.
Whales, any good dps toons you have left are probably best to use on teams with OB, and hoping for a dead OB so you can super burst.
